Dead Weight:
Dead Weight:
A co-op fishing game with a dark story, horror, tons of fish, and some things you probably don't want to find beneath the water.
Deadweight started as an idea for a fishing game that I could play with friends, but it quickly grew into something much more personal.
The game combines co-op fishing, exploration, horror, and storytelling. Players can head out onto the ocean together, catch all kinds of fish, explore coral reefs and strange locations, and eventually encounter the things lurking beneath the surface.
But underneath all of that, Deadweight is a story about loss.
A lot of the story draws from my own experiences with loss in my life. As I worked on the project, I started thinking about the moments that had the biggest impact on me. I would ask myself: What were the most important events? What did those moments feel like? And how could I represent or exaggerate those feelings through a story?
That became one of the biggest inspirations behind Deadweight.
Even though Deadweight is still an unfinished project, I've already had a lot of fun bringing its world to life.
I've created my own custom ships, built the game's starter town, set up the ocean and coral reefs, and started developing the fish and fishing mechanics. I've also been experimenting with the creatures and darker elements that will eventually inhabit the world.
There's still a lot left to build, but that's part of what has made this project so exciting. Deadweight has given me the chance to build an entire game around my own ideas, from the environments and vehicles to the gameplay and story.
For now, I've had to put Deadweight on hold while I finish some of my other projects. But the project isn't forgotten.
I still want to return to it, continue building out the world, and eventually get Deadweight into the hands of players.
